Specialty Barista espresso and milk skills, knowledge of bean to cup process, try multiple different coffees, learn different coffee brewing techniques, work with different equipment & know how to clean and look after specialty machines. Specialty Coffee Association Foundation Barista Skills qualification. This is an internationally recognised qualification.
Work readiness and employability skills, including preparing and accessing work as a Specialty Barista.
On successful completion of training all trainees automatically move onto the Barista Graduate Programme which includes free bespoke job searching support based on geographic location and career development goal setting. Well Grounded nurtures positive partnerships with specialty coffee businesses which gives Barista Graduates access to live job vacancies. The aftercare team provides interview coaching, mentoring, further training and development as well as invitations to industry events and socials for at least a year post programme.
9 weeks of part-time training 3 days a week. The first 4 weeks will focus on developing foundation barista and coffee knowledge; the following 5 weeks will be training 1 day a week plus 2 days work placement.
Ten 5 hour shifts at a specialty coffee business to further develop your skills and training.
Training covers technical skills around brewing coffee and steaming milk; theory relating to coffee menus, extraction and coffee origin; workspace management, hygiene, health & safety, cleaning and maintenance to achieve the Foundation Barista Skills qualification from the Specialty Coffee Association. This is an internationally recognised qualification.
Over the 9-weeks we will teach barista skills foundation content alongside a much wider curriculum of learning, with technical skills learnt on the La Marzocco Linea PB & Strada Espresso Machine, sensory development, brewing techniques, basics of roasting theory, latte art development, interpersonal skills such as resilience, teamwork, collaboration, self-awareness and customer service. Intensive part time training will be delivered in the first 4 weeks of the programme with days out visiting specialty cafes, roasteries and meeting industry professionals.
We work with all our Graduates to progress them into work as Baristas. Last year 88% of our trainees moved into work in the coffee industry after the programme. In addition, all Graduates move onto the Graduate Programme which provides further interview coaching, mentoring, training and development as well as invitations to industry events and socials for at least a year post programme.
